Episode 62: Maths at MATRIX

What does mathematical research look like?

If you visit Australia's residential mathematics research institute, you might be surprised by what you see.

It's called MATRIX and it's located in regional Victoria in the town of Creswick. It's a place for mathematicians to gather and work together.

ACEMS Chief Investigator Jan de Gier founded MATRIX and is its Director. Unlike a conference, though, where everything is scheduled, Jan says the key to success at MATRIX is providing an environment that's very much the opposite and the days are less structured.

In this episode, we explore the importance of mathematics research, how it’s done, and why MATRIX is so important for this type of research in Australia.
