Episode 50: The Maths & Stats Behind Testing Vaccines

It’s been a race against something we can’t see. Scientists from around the world all doing what they could to stop or slow the spread of COVID-19. Some of the biggest efforts involved the development of vaccines.

This episode isn't going to tackle the specifics of any of the different COVID-19 vaccines or the government's strategy to roll them out.

Instead, we explore some of the mathematical and statistical methodology needed in the whole vaccine creation process. In addition, we hope to make you better consumers of all the news you see and hear when it comes to different vaccines.

Our guest is UNSW Associate Professor James Wood, a current member of the Australian Technical Advisory Group on Immunisation advising the government on vaccine strategy.
