Dr Brigitte Colin
I studied Spatial Sciences in Germany and I worked as an on-site contractor for the US Army Europe (USAREUR) in Germany, and received a “Certificate of Excellence in honour of exceptional performance for outstanding support to Range Operations”.
After I gave birth to my first child, I decided to study Computer Science at a distance learning university where I could be flexible in allocating time to my studies and my family. I graduated with a Bachelor's degree in Applied Computer Science and moved to Australia shortly afterwards. By the end of my second year, I received an ACEMS "Certificate of outstanding achievement" as part of my Ph.D. candidature in Applied Statistics with the focus on spatio-temporal Machine Learning approaches and prediction models.
My thesis was nominated for the QUT Outstanding Doctoral Thesis Award that acknowledges the need to encourage the promotion of excellence in higher degree research in Australia. In assessing my thesis, the reviewer stated that my work will make a significant contribution to the scientific knowledge base of Australia and beyond, has the potential for a wide range of applications in future research, and is highly important in the era of Big Data.
I am currently employed as a Data Scientist at Munich RE in Sydney.
