Professor Liz Sonenberg
Liz Sonenberg holds the Chancellery roles of Pro Vice Chancellor Research Systems and Pro Vice Chancellor Digital & Data, and is a Professor of Information Systems in the Melbourne School of Engineering. Across these roles her responsibilities include oversight of the maturing of the array of business systems that support the research enterprise, and guiding the University’s strategic digital and data agenda, governance and policies. Previously, at the University of Melbourne she has been Head of the Department of Information Systems and Dean of the Faculty of Science.
Her research focus, with colleagues nationally and internationally, has been on foundations of agent-based teamwork, especially development of socially oriented software agents, including cross-disciplinary work building computational models of human decision making performance. Her contributions are in the design of agent-based architectures and reasoning mechanisms that are sufficiently expressive to be suited to specified tasks in various domains, but also tractable, and hence able to be embedded in software.
Across her career she has graduated 21 PhD students, attracted over $2.5m of national competitive grant income, and had considerable industry engagement in funded research.
